Reading 1. Laurie Rodriguez.

We all have different views on  what is art, to some of us art may be the explanation of a story, and to others a painting with no story behind it what so ever. To me art  is a way of expressing yourself its a way of letting your spirit speak.Art is passion, security, confidence, power ,originality and also self awareness.

After reading the article "seeing out loud by Jerry Saltzs; he explaines to us a little bit of what he thinks art and art criticism is. To him art is originality, experimentation, obsession, surprise;  It is the ability of being able to put your thoughts out there to take risks and embarras yourself; to be confident and basically broad enough to accept others criticism.  He says an artist is not someone with skills but someone who is open and puts his ideas out there for other to see as well.
I would have to say i agree with Jerry Saltzs, i think his explanation of art is basically how I feel about it; I think to be an artist or to be able to express your art you have to be able to be strong and not take yourself so serious you have to be open ,its when  you're able to take chances and learn from them and not mind embarrassing yourself in some situations to get your art across.
He says it is an  "experimentation a way of thinking"; he describes it with the simplest words which i think its perfect because its the exact same way i would describe it; As Inner thoughts and imagination.
Jerry Saltzs also describes what art criticism is to him, he says " you don't have to be schooled to be an art critict, you just have to have an eye how a musician has an ear" and also be bold and full of courage to be able to say what one thinks of an artist work. Art criticism is knowing the difference between "inspired and smart" between "common and curiosity" it's not engaging art in an academic way so serious and uptight but is trying to create a place for curiosity and openness .Art criticism is also a way of learning about art, the more you speak on something the more you know about it and respectfully learn about it.
I would have to agree once again with Jerry Saltsz, i think one knows good art when you see it, but its the way its described  and the courage and  enthusiasm you have for the the art work when spoken of is that makes you an art critic. Never dull full  of attitude and never afraid to speak.
Jerry Saltzs explains an art critic should never be asked to not speak about an art piece he or she does not like because this is a way of showing respect and acknowledgement an of learning.

The way Jerry Saltzs explains his ideas on art and art criticism are very simple and i think the way most people would describe it , he doesn't speak on it like something most people wouldn't relate to or agree with, personally i can say my thoughts are very similar as Jerry Saltzs' ; we both agree on artistry coming from inner thoughts and experiences, inner energy ,openness, curiosity and unpredictability. He makes it very clear art is not to be made as an academic field but as a place for expressing and engagement and i agree.
